The Zone Maintenance Mechanic within the Facilities and Property Management department carries out a wide variety of maintenance tasks in the self-support units across campus including: University Housing, Smith Memorial Student Union, Parking, Peter Stott Center, Native American Student and Community Center, Science Education Center, and the Corbett Building.

Projects and tasks for the position may include the following: inspecting, adjusting, maintaining and repairing building operating systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, refrigeration units, pneumatic controls, boilers, and direct digital controls for boilers and energy management systems.

The person in this position will perform journey level mechanical systems maintenance and repair to the following equipment: chillers, boilers, rooftop heat pumps and other similar equipment, refrigeration equipment, circulating fans, and other related equipment.

The Zone Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance, construction and essential electrical repairs, carpentry, painting and patch work for campus buildings/spaces.

The position sets up and performs preventative maintenance on mechanical systems as noted above; including building supply fans and other mechanical systems, building motors and other equipment. The position repairs plugged roof drains and troubleshoots leaking roof systems, broken window panes and other window structures in campus buildings. The Zone Maintenance Mechanic performs other systems related duties such as repairing and maintaining building plumbing systems, unplugging toilets, repairing damaged equipment on campus including restrooms, repairing campus steam pipes, valves, and other small motor units.

Under supervision of a Journeyman and Supervising electrician, the Zone Maintenance Mechanic installs, alters, maintains, and repairs wiring systems, fire alarm systems, lights, and other electrical fixtures and equipment; installs and makes electrical repairs on specialized equipment such as HVAC systems, pumps, fans, electrical sterilizers; installs and maintains motors; performs related electrical work and some mechanical work to repair or replace parts.

The Zone Maintenance Mechanic also performs other duties as assigned to fulfill the departmental and University mission and may include duties such as responding to work requests, performing prep/clean-up for campus events, providing assistance for campus emergencies, public safety events, natural disasters, inclement weather issues such as performing snow and water removal or addressing other weather or natural damage to campus buildings and infrastructure.

The person in this position must be willing to work after hours or on-call as needed, and must willing to assist with housing maintenance room turnovers and will be expected to assist other maintenance units as needed. The position requires the use of PSU's asset management software (AiM). This position requires excellent customer service skills, fast response times to customer requests, and the ability to coordinate between the various Facilities departments. The person in the position must work proactively, effectively and independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Journeyman level skills in maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment, machinery and physical plant operating systems.

-Journeyman level skills in using manual and power tools to perform work.

-Proven ability to perform work in a professional customer service manner.

-Proven ability to communicate effectively with the diverse campus community and staff in the performance of work.

-Proven ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.

-Proficient computer user including competency with printers, multi-line phones, fax and copy machines.

-Successful completion of a background check.

-Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience performing related work in an institutional environment.

-Strong background in painting and drywall repair.

-Experience in woodworking and metal fabrication.

-Demonstrated ability to lead small teams in construction, maintenance and repair tasks.

-Certificate in Facilities Maintenance Technology.
