General Maintenance Mechanic

Facilities and Property Management (FPM) is recruiting for a General Maintenance Mechanic to perform skilled journey level work in the fabrication, maintenance and repair of machinery and physical plant operating equipment and systems, and performs related work as required. The General Maintenance Mechanic:
- works independently on a daily basis and prioritizes and completes tasks with minimal supervision;
- often works cooperatively with other members of Facilities and Property Management to achieve shared goals.
- is expected to accept, learn and adapt to new technology.
- maintains high professional standards through continual skill development and adherence to PSU uniform and conduct standards.

FPM is pleased to serve all members of the Portland State University (PSU) community. The facilities and grounds at PSU consist of over 5 million square feet of facilities and approximately 50 acres of grounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Four years of progressive experience in a similar environment to a university residence hall (e.g. a multifamily residential environment), OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
-Four years experience working both independently and as part of a maintenance team.
-Must be a team player.
-Four years experience prioritizing daily work load.
-Ability to perform duties in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
-Excellent customer service skills and sensitivity to student schedules.
-Ability to work evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
-Ability to be on-call and share rotation with the on-call pager.
-Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.
-Must have a valid driver's license.
-Successful completion of a criminal background check.
-Skilled in computer technology and database management.
-Ability to write clearly and precisely.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience maintaining university residence halls.
