DSHS Adult Protective Services Investigator
Social Service Specialist 3
We need your professional knowledge and skills at the Home and Community Services, Adult Protective Services office in Vancouver to advocate for vulnerable adults and investigate reports of abandonment, abuse, exploitation, neglect, and self-neglect. Your success will be measured through gathering evidence, conducting objective, timely and thorough investigations in order to determine a finding based on the preponderance of evidence standard. As well as assisting individuals with services that maintains their safety and dignity.
**Some of what you'll do:**
* Conduct face-to-face interviews with clients in their residence and in facilities, investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, abandonment, and/or exploitation
* Conduct interviews with alleged perpetrators
* Collect and evaluate relevant information to make decisions related to investigation, services and outcomes
* Provide client advocacy, consultation, networking, family support and crisis intervention.
* Coordinate with law enforcement, judicial entities, families, facilities, local office staff, other regional offices and community agencies/partners regarding needs of clients served
* Interview collateral contacts to gather additional information
* Identify situations presenting risk to vulnerable adults and refer to service groups.
* Refer to other community resources and internal and external stakeholders
* Authorize services and payments
* Prepare and provide testimony at administrative hearings, court proceedings, criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings
* Participate in on-going training, meetings and provide community education on APS programs
**What we're looking for**
* Knowledge of Long Term Care programs and policy
* Knowledge of Medicaid terminology, regulations, and policies
* Ability to analyze and develop workable solutions on a variety of programmatic issues/problems
* Knowledge of DSHS and other online database systems such as payment systems and service authorization procedures (SSPS, CARE, Barcode, ACES online) to gather information
* Ability to organize caseload priorities and assignments to meet workload expectations
**Who should apply?**
Professionals who have one year of paid experience assessing risk and safety to vulnerable adults or children, AND one of the following:
* One year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2 at DSHS.
* A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or a related field and two years of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2 at DSHS. Note: A Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum will be substituted for one year of paid social service experience
* A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or a related field, and three years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2 at DSHS.
